“This is the way the world ends

Not with a bang but a whimper.”

― T.S. Eliot

The metaphorical imageries of Sitikantha Samantasinghar portray an enduring struggle of human society, the fight against the oppressors. Sitikanta, coming from a family that has led farmers’ movements in Odhisa, talks about the long history of exploitation and oppression that continues till date, forcing thousands of peasants to commit suicide. His painting, titled ‘The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind Someone Living 2’ is a representation of despair, agony and a fatal death. The sombre grey in the background fumes a menacing uneasiness that holds in it the metaphors and symbols of the narration.

The Delhi-based artist has participated in many national and international group shows such as ‘A 100 Many Splendoured Things’ at Samanvai Art Gallery, New Delhi (2019), ‘Emerging Palette’ at Shrishti Art Gallery, Hyderabad (2019), and 60th National Exhibition by Lalit kala Akademi at NGMA, New Delhi (2019).
