“In all things of nature, there is something of the marvellous.”

Aristotle

Nature has been a perennial inspiration for creative minds from time unknown. Amongst other components of nature, it is the richness and luminosity of colours that fascinates artist Sanjay Tikkal. His paintings are the interplay between the representational and non-representational forms often woven together by the dripping lines of pigments in the form of a tapestry. His vibrant colour palette is inspired by both traditional paintings and works by Akbar Padamsee and Ram Kumar. Paintings from his ‘Mindscape’ series are currently on display at GAAF.

Sanjay studied drawing and painting from Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya, Pune. His paintings have been exhibited in a number of group and solo shows at Birla Academy, Jehangir Art Gallery, Appa Rao Galleries, Pradarshak Art Gallery, Art-walk Gallery, Mumbai, Lalit Kala Akademi, India Habitat Centre, Delhi, Gallery Space, Hyderabad and Goa Kala Academy, Goa among others. He has participated in Singapore Art Fair and Dubai Art Fair. He is a recipient of many state and national awards including Maharashtra State Art Exhibition Award, Art Society of India Award (2003, 2004), Hyderabad Art Society Portrait Award and Silver medal (2003), Bombay Art Society – Gold Medal and Best Entry Award (2010), and Prafulla Dahanukar Art Foundation – City Award (2017).
