Worship of Goddess

Prakash G Nayak from Bangalore has a Diploma in Drawing and Painting from the Dharwad University and has had several shows in India and Singapore. He has moved from miniature paintings to modern art. But a characteristic feature of his paintings is the presence of folk motifs. The painting featured today is from his series named ‘Goddess’. ⠀

Look at the trees⠀
And what do you see?⠀
The beauty of God⠀

Look at the flowers⠀
And what do you see?⠀
The beauty of God⠀

Look at the sky⠀
And what do you see?⠀
The beauty of God⠀

Now, look in the mirror⠀
And what do you see?⠀
The beauty of God⠀

Purists may not approve of it, but amalgamation of styles happens based on the expressions that an artist wants to put forth. Nothing seems more complex than trying to express adulation towards one’s God (or Goddess). Prakash Nayak combines folk and modern styles to evoke the deep-set adulation for the Goddess. The human, looking up to the big entity in the sky, is surrounded by nature. Is he seeing God in nature or vice versa? The simple lines of the folk style are given a modern twist with some modern contours and shading techniques. The colour scheme seems to suggest the worshiper and the worshiped seeing a little of themselves in each other. Do you see the beauty of God, and man?⠀
